PLL project
Squishy Circuits
Squishy Circuits is a kit that uses conductive and insulating play dough to teach the basics of electrical circuits and allows children of all ages to learn engineering concepts through creativity, play, and independent thinking. The PLL created the kits in 2011, and today they are used in classrooms, libraries, museums, and maker spaces in all 50 states and more than 25 countries. The kit includes dough of various colors and uses basic hardware such as LEDs, motors, battery packs, fans and buzzers so learners can create their own inventive designs that light up, move, make noise, and more.
This introduction video shows basic circuitry and design ideas for Squishy Circuits.
In a zippy demo from TED U, Hands-on Science with Squishy Circuits, AnnMarie Thomas shows how two different types of homemade play dough can be used to demonstrate electrical properties, lighting LEDs and spinning motors, and ultimately turning kids into circuit designers.
